Morgan Hermanson, Twisted Handle Pottery
My name is Morgan Hermanson, and I am the owner/artist of Twisted Handle Pottery in Brule, Wisconsin. Twisted Handle Pottery started out as a hobby back in February 2019. I was watching a video of a Minnesota potter on YouTube, and I looked at my husband and said, “I’m going to buy a pottery wheel and make pottery.” Mind you, I had never taken a single class on wheel throwing or pottery basics beyond elementary school art class.
A few weeks later, my first pottery wheel arrived. It definitely was NOT as easy as it looked in the video, but I do not give up! With persistence, trial and error, and a few more tutorial videos, I had made my first few mugs and small bowls!
Since then, I have learned many things and my work has far surpassed those early pieces. I’m proud of the fact that I am 100 percent self-taught, and I enjoy sharing my story with others.
I use lots of bright, vivid glazes and finish my mugs, berry bowls, and other handled pieces with my signature “twisted handle.” I’m excited to be part of the Bayfield Artists’ Guild and the northern Wisconsin arts community.
